From a first glance, a simple little puzzle, Threes! invites us to match numbered tiles together to make multiples of 3.
A friend gifted this game to me and I quickly made the remark that this is the kind of game that would not have attracted my attention due to its price. However, after having had the chance to experience its wonders, I couldn’t help but to recommend it to everyone.
The tutorial teaches you to play faster that you can blink 3 times. Truly, its simplicity allows practically no understanding of English. 1 + 2 = 3. 3 + 3 = 6. Continue forth and to the highest possible number you can reach!
The music and sounds are very unique in this game app. Each number has its own unique voice and personality; they will protest strongly or sometimes rave once matched with one another. This all makes them endearing little numbers, and we would want the game board to have more of them.
Graphically, the game is very clean: there is 4 colours plus black. This keeps the airy, light, naive and playful tone of the game at its front.
The controls are also very simple: a simple finger swipe is used to move our numbers in four possible directions: top, left, right, bottom. There is little innovation there, certainly, but this does not detract from the pleasure of using the application.
A simple little game that will fill either a 3 minutes long wait in queue for our morning coffee or a rainy afternoon on the couch. And please note you’ll find yourself whistling the theme song over and over in the next couple of days.
