Space Beard: an hairy situation in space – Review

Spacebeard came on my iPhone a bit by chance. I ended up getting a promo code leaked by the game developers, Noxus, on Twitter in order to gather interest in their new game. Well, it wasn’t a wasted shot, was it!

Spacebeard is a runner type of game. With your glorious and manly facial hair, you will need to kill monsters, aliens and zombies since your spacecraft has been subject to their attacks. Buckle up because it is going to be a tough fight in space.

The game is very reactive, and your character is precise in how movements, which is great considering it only has 2 buttons: jump and shoot. As you run around endlessly in the halls of this spaceship, you will end up using the jump button often; tapping it twice will make you double jump and tapping it a 3rd time will make you face the law of gravity faster than intended. That will end up being useful in a lot of situation. Your quick reaction skills will be needed to survive this space adventure.

The graphics are very cartoony looking, and very well done in that unique genre. However, the background is so busy you often confuse part of the obstacle course (ie. an electric fence) with it; resulting in a sudden halt – the death of your hero. That got frustrating real fast.

You would be wise to collect coins you will find scattered around the spacecraft, as you can trade them for better weapons and important armor upgrades.

Furthermore, the music is very good in this app. In fact, so good that I just let it play on a loop while I was typing up this review instead of shutting it down.

Action game are often attractive and entertaining, but this one has a little je-ne-sais-quoi that makes it different. You’ll want to play it everyday!
