5 games in 5 minutes for the iPhone – 3rd Edition

In this edition of 5 games in 5 minutes we will explore some fast paced minimalist puzzles. Games that will make you think, and very fast too.

rototo_banner
Rototo is a space survival game. You are a strangely shaped vessel, anchored in the middle of the screen and the only thing protecting you is your shield. You can’t even shoot at your enemies, so you’ll have to rely on a good old ping pong-esque dynamic to vanquish your foes. See how long you can survive when they gang up on you! Very difficult game, but insanely fun!

Polyeon is a game on the iPhone that could be described as Simon on steroids. Instead of remembering a sequence of colors, you need to tap the squares, press and hold the circles and swipe the triangles to break them. The fast-paced action will make your heartbeat pump up and keep you highly engaged.

The concept of Blindfolded isn’t a new one, but this one comes in a very cure minimalist package. You have a red dot that must join up with the black dot through an easy looking maze. The only problem is the walls of the maze disappear when you are ready to start moving: so you must rely on your memory to make it to the black dot. Frustrating, yes, but also very entertaining. I’m stuck on level 19 so beat my score!

If you remember the excellent Sunburn!, the game Lectro will feel a tiny bit familiar. Only this time, your electrode spins on it’s own around the dot and you must time your propulsion very precisely to be aligned with the next dot. The game is so difficult, but so colourful. It’s a pleasure to get frustrated by it.

brickies_banner
A modern twist on the classic breakout game with Brickies. The main difference is that when your ball miss the paddle, it doesn’t mean game over. The ball powers are simply desactivated until you bounce it again. Like it’s original, you will eventually unlock some fun power ups as you progress through the levels, and I’m told there are over 100 of them so you’re in for a fun time.
